Call for Submissions: Geek Love: An Anthology of Full Frontal Nerdity

Do you have the hots for that uber-sexy IT chick who knows exactly how to turn your computer on? Do you find a mad scientist’s lab a sexier setting than the bridal suite at the Ritz? Do you take tours through the natural history museum just so you can watch the tour guide talk about the hardness of perfectly preserved dino bones? Know how to twiddle a game controller with the best of them? Then we want to see your stories, art and comics in Geek Love.

Geek Love will be a collection that celebrates geekdom in all its erotic, smart, hot-as-an-exploding-chem-lab ways. Think smart and sexy, girls with glasses, boys with brains, computers with all the right hardware. Give us characters who are smart but not smarmy, nerdy and wordy — whether they’re playing Doctor or petting Schrödinger’s pussy! Bring us your mad (and sane) scientists, your grammar nerds and your nerdy grandmas, your role players and cos-players, your freaks and geeks, your goggles and gears.

We have a kick-ass team putting this collection together, full of skilled editors, planning gurus, artists and promotional rockstars, including Galen Dara, Jaym Gates, Janine Ashbless, and Shanna Germain.

This will be a Kickstarter Project, and the funds will be used to pay the writers and artists, to produce the full-color ebook and print book, and to promote the collection. If we receive additional funds (and we absolutely believe we will), that money will be used to increase the pay to authors and artists.

Geek love… It’s the Comma Sutra. It’s Full-Frontal Nerdity at its finest. It’s the sexiest thing since Leisure Suit Larry and Lara Croft filmed that super-secret easter egg cut scene together. It’s hotter than a mad scientist’s robot girl.

Call for Submissions: The Weight of a Gun

The Weight Of A Gun Anthology
Edited by: Elizabeth Hyder
Published by: Storm Moon Press
Deadline: July 15th, 2011
Payment: $50-$75 depending on the story length, payable upon publication (see details below)

Everyone knows that guns are dangerous; they have long been a subject surrounded by controversy. Combine them with sex and you have a subject that is taboo, but not too taboo. We’re looking for M/M stories 8,000 to 12,000 words in length that involve sexual play with guns.

The gunplay can be any sort as long as the gun does not go off while pointed at a person. Anything from frottage to insertion to a character using the gun to threaten his partner — as long as the gun is a sexual focus. What do we mean by sexual focus? The gun can’t just be present in the scene, it has to be an important part of the scene. The characters are always the most important part of a scene, but the gun should have significance as well.

“Gun” is, of course, a flexible term — if your characters are safety-inclined, it’s fine to use a toy gun or an object that the other character thinks is a gun. If it uses gunpowder, air, or resembles a gun, it’s in.

For this anthology, situations that involve dubious consent are fine. Rape is allowed only so long as it has a purpose and is not written for titillation. Make sure there’s a reason involved and that you resolve the majority of the conflict the rape brings up. That might be hard to do in the allotted word-count so be careful with this!

We are looking to represent all genres in this anthology, so don’t be afraid to write about paintball guns, magic pistols, steampunk rifles, laser blasters, or early firearms. Diversity is something we look forward to seeing, so whatever you have, bring it on!

Initial contract length will be for exclusive print and electronic rights for three years, with options to renew after that time. The author will initially receive a flat $50-$75 depending on the story length, payable upon publication. Six months after the release of the full anthology, all the stories will be made available individually though the Storm Moon Press site and selected third party retailers, and the author will receive 50% royalties on those sales (less distribution fees for third party vendors).

Submissions for this anthology will be accepted until July 15th, 2011. Acceptance notifications and contracts will be issued during the month of August. All content featured in The Weight Of A Gun will be edited. Planned release for both e-book and print versions is January 9th, 2012 for the anthology, and June 11th, 2012 for the individual short story ebooks — there will be no print versions of the separate stories.

Material that includes the following will be summarily rejected:

    * Pedophilia (ie, sex between those under the age of 18)

    * Necrophilia (vampires, zombies, and the like don’t count)

    * Bestiality (that is, sex with non-sentient animals)

    * Scat or golden showers

    * Gratuitous violence

    * Rape (violent, non-consensual sex that is clearly a violation of another person)

    * Snuff

Submission Requirements:

    * Submission deadline is July 15th, 2011, no exceptions

    * Please send submissions to submissions @ stormmoonpress.com (remove the spaces when surrounding the @ sign when emailing us)

    * Email subject should read: THE WEIGHT OF A GUN: TITLE AUTHOR

    * Include a 300 word bio of the author as a cover page

    * The top left of the cover page should include the following: submission title, author’s name, address, phone number, and e-mail

    * Submissions must be sent as a RTF attachment, the file named THE_WEIGHT_OF_A_GUN_TITLE_AUTHORNAME

    * Double spaced, 12 point font, Times New Roman, 1” margins, do not indent your paragraphs, blank space between paragraphs, ### or *** between scene breaks

    * Unpublished submissions only

    * Please be certain to edit your own work; any submissions with glaring, common errors will be rejected

    * All accepted submissions will be edited prior to publication

Call for Submissions: Dear Sister

Lisa wrote:

I encourage you all to submit and forward this call widely. As we know the prevailing silence around sexual assault, it is my hope and request that you take a moment to contribute to this outreach and forward this to any and all allies and survivors of sexual violence. If you know of any coalitions, agencies, shelters, or organizations, feel more than free to offer this to them.

This is a long time vision of mine to build something for survivors and, I hope, this is just the beginning of community healing and radical memoir.

This is the call for submissions. You can also access it here at A Woman’s Ecdysis:

Call For Submission

Dear Sister is an anthology of letters and other works created for survivors of sexual violence from other survivors and allies.  It is a collection of hope and strength through words and art.

The pathway for a survivor of rape and sexual violence is an unlit road of pain, isolation, and doubt.  In the weeks, months, and oftentimes, years following, the healing process can be difficult to navigate without a community surrounding her. Imagine a compilation of literary arms bound together to offer words of understanding, solidarity, and love. Dear Sister is an accessible and inclusive offering of hope, voice, and courage; seeking writers and artists who wish to light a piece of that road and lift up other women in her healing.

It is an impossible task to write a letter to every survivor of rape, to every woman who lives with an invisible scar.  Instead of thinking of the face of the person you are writing to, reflect on the image of an unlit path, a road with no clear footing. Your offering will be one light, among many, to make visible what was previously unseen, to illuminate what was hidden.  You are providing a few more steps for someone to walk steadily toward their own recovery.  Your words can be an anchor, a meditation, a prayer, a strong embrace or a gentle touch. The purpose of this anthology is not to retell stories of assault, but to help others regain a sense of balance and wholeness.

Mindfully move beyond what is commonly said and reflect upon radical companionship. Write what you wish for her to know and never forget.  And if you lose focus, look deep into a mirror and reflect: What would you want to be told if you were in the darkness?

Information

Dear Sister primarily seeks letters but will accept poems, prose, essay, and drawn art that can be scanned for entry.  Maximum word count is 1000.

Deadline for submission is November 1, 2010.

Women and transpeople of any race, creed, background, citizenship or non-citizen, ability, and identity are encouraged to submit their words and work to uplift others in the healing stages of post trauma and violence.  Both English and Spanish are accepted. All questions can be directed to dearsisteranthology@gmail.com

Submission can be emailed as an attachment with “Dear Sister Entry” in the subject todearsisteranthology@gmail.com.

Hand written letters can addressed and mailed to

Note from the Editor

Rape and sexual violence thrive in the silence of our homes and communities. Outreach must be wide and intentional if we are seek to hear from those who are silenced. Please forward this to as many individuals, groups, organizations, listserves, websites, and agencies that come to mind.

Call For Submissions: Queering Sexual Violence

Queering Sexual Violence (working title)

An anthology of LGBTQ writers, survivors and activists confronting heterosexual privilege and the gender binary system while creating a dialog about the limitations of the anti-sexual violence movement in hopes of creating change.

Edited by Jennifer Patterson

Queering Sexual Violence seeks 20- 25 LGBTQ writers who are interested in submitting pieces that confront the current state of our anti- sexual violence climate. Part memoir/ part criticism/ part call to action, this anthology seeks to address the limitations of a society that is not only unequipped to deal with rape culture but also unable to look at it without the lens of heterosexual privilege and through the interests of a gender binary system. The anthology seeks to destroy the image of the “perfect survivor” and motivate the anti-sexual violence community to embrace a more radical perspective in order to foster sustainable change.

For general purposes, the definition of Sexual Violence attached to this anthology is as follows:

Sexual Violence is an unwanted or non- consensual act, whether completed or not, that is sexual in nature and violates a person physically, emotionally, spiritually and/or politically.

To be more clear, Sexual Violence can be a range of non-consensual sexual exchanges, from unwanted interactions on the street, to non- consensual rape from either a stranger or within a relationship, to incest or also invasive sexually based comments in regards to ones gender presentation or identity, among many other things.

The pieces submitted should be of the writer’s personal experience and explore the intersections of ability, sexuality, race, class, religion, citizenship, gender identity, sex, age, ethnicity and how these either magnify or minimize your experience/ work and your history with sexual violence. I encourage you to write about living as a “survivor” but also the ways in which you navigate and celebrate not being a “typical” survivor (as I am sure most of us are not, by the larger societal definition.)

I believe that organizing from the center of our many different and overlapping marginalized communities could do nothing but improve the current anti- sexual violence movement.

I am looking for pieces 1200- 2000 words, Times New Roman Size 12, double-spaced in length. Upon publication, I will supply moderate compensation for pieces picked. Also, please provide a short bio (150 words or less) with your submission.

Please send submissions and/ or questions to queeringsexualviolence@gmail.com by March 31, 2010. For extension requests, please write.

Please also repost and circulate widely.
